Grandpa
I never got to meet my grandpa. However, I was told by my father that he and I would have gotten along great because of our similar interests. My grandfather passed away in 1990 about 8 years before I was born. But I have always felt that I have had a connection with him through the stories that my dad would tell me about him. Stories that had to do with my grandpa being in World War 2 and working for himself later in life. My grandpa was a photographer in the war and outside of the war, this is one of the reasons that I have found myself drawn to photography. My grandfather also left many things to my family after his passing. His wallet, cameras, knives, many watches, and many other personal objects. It’s through these personal objects that we have saved that I feel closest to the loved ones in my life who have passed, even if I never met them. By photographing my grandfather’s personal effects, I can show who he was when he was alive. Throughout the making of this project, I have not only felt that I have grown closer to my grandfather but to my father as well, having him help me find the objects to photograph and going through the memories and stories that my father remembered while going through many boxes and files of my grandfathers.
